Reducing Malnutrition and Childhood Illness

India accounts for a substantial part of the global burden of disease, with 18% of global deaths and 20% disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs).

The Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) in India is a far cry from the Millennium Development Goal (MDG-5) with a target of 109 per 100,000 live births. 48% of Indian children less than 5 years are chronically malnourished making them stunted while 43% of them are underweight.

World Vision India works towards reducing malnutrition and childhood illness in all the communities we serve.

While our immediate outcomes focus on ensuring adequate intake of nutritious food and preventing childhood illnesses such as diarrhoea and pneumonia, we work towards improving food security, maternal and child health and nutrition practices, standards of hygiene and strengthening health systems.
