Celebrating Life

A Launch Pad

Nelson Mandela’s famous quote “Education is the powerful weapon through which you can change the world” resonates World Vision India‘s primary goals. Education brings a cycle of transformation in the life of a child. It is what we call a ripple effect. It begins with the child, extends to the family and stretches out to the entire community. Eventually, the world they live in changes accommodating the change that is happening with the child.

In our efforts to sustain the transformation and help children achieve their dreams, World Vision India partners with Sathyabama University enabling children from our communities to pursue Engineering courses.

Way back in 2012, Dr. Mariazeena Johnson, Managing Director, Sathyabama University, offered Engineering courses free of cost to the children from our communities. At present 52 children are pursuing Engineering at Sathyabama University. 10 students have successfully passed out as Engineers too!

On June 17th 2016, we happened to enroll the latest batch of 15 students. This time, we had a student counselor who advised and helped children understand the nature of every discipline and which one would suit them best. All of these children have fared well in their Std 12 examinations and are fully capable of pursuing Engineering courses. They also have the zeal and enthusiasm to do it!

More than the happy faces of the children, the happiest of the lot were the parents who not in even wildest dreams had imagined their son/daughter to make it to an Engineering college. This is the first generation in their families to be educated. Sharing short stories on 3 students from the batch.

venkataramanVenkataraman

This sports enthusiast has made it this far with the support of his mother. His love for sports and academics is a rare blend. Venkataraman wants to work for ISRO (The Indian Space Research Organisation). Can such talent be hidden? He will be pursuing Aeronautical Engineering.

Sandhyasandhya

Her parents never thought their daughter would someday become an Engineer. Sandhya was good in academics which qualified her for a scholarship throughout school. Now with World Vision India’s support she is able to continue her education. She will be pursuing Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering.

maheshMahesh Yogaraj (L)

He comes from a rural village in Marungapuri. Both his parents are daily wage labourers. Mahesh was encouraged by his Uncle to pursue a course in Engineering. He has opted for a Chemical Engineering. He is posing with one of our staff in the picture.

World Vision India wishes all 15 of them the very best and we hope to see them achieve more than what they have dreamed of!
